SERVING OPPORTUNITIES AT LCM

The following descriptions are designed to help you find a way to use your talents inside and outside the walls of LCM. Use these descriptions to complete a “My Faith in Action” form.

Bible Study Groups – There are many Bible studies available at various times, days and locations. See this page or the monthly newsletter for current options.
 
Foyer Groups – Small groups of singles or couples that get together on a regular basis monthly for fellowship and food.
 
Sports Teams – Whether it is our LCM softball team, our men’s golf, or you’d like to start something new, this is a chance to get together and have some fun!

Seniors – See Senior Ministry section.
 
Women – See Women’s Ministry section.
 
Baptismal Boxes (woodworking) – Assist in making wooden boxes given to baptized individuals.
 
Men’s Basketball Group – A group of men (age 16 and up) of all skill levels who meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at Elkhorn Middle School to play basketball.
 
Men’s Breakfast Group – A group of men who meet at 6:30 am every Tuesday morning at West Campus for a catered breakfast and lesson.
 
Men’s Golf – This group meets in the summertime on Monday mornings or Thursday afternoons.
 
Men’s Softball -This group plays softball during the summer. More details are announced before the season begins.
 
Circle Group – A group of women who meet (monthly) at East Campus for fellowship, a Bible study and discussion.
 
Mom’s Retreat – A conference held every fall. It’s a chance to deepen your faith and meet new friends.
 
Women’s Bible Study – A variety of women’s groups are offered at various locations, times and days of the week. They offer fellowship, study of the Word and some have food and service projects. See the monthly newsletter for groups that are currently meeting.
 
Horizons – This group of retired (55 & older) adults meets monthly (except January and February) for fellowship, food and a program of interest.
 
Senior Care Ministry – This group gets together weekly or monthly to visit residents of an assisted living environment for companionship, sing-alongs and a short devotion. Substitutes and pianists are also needed.
 
Funeral Luncheons – This group serves a meal after a funeral service.  You can work in the kitchen, help serve, clean up, or donate bars or cookies.
 
GriefShare – A friendly, caring group to walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences.  This group meets on Sundays at East Campus.
 
Lay Ministry Visitation Team – The lay visitation team is being developed, trained, and deployed to strengthen and expand LCM’s congregational care ministry. This team enhances and complements the pastoral care given by the pastoral team of LCM.
 
Meal Ministry (Nurturing Nourishment) – Individuals who provide meals to those needing a temporary helping hand such as a new baby, illness, or recent hospitalization.
 
Prayer Chain – Our Prayer Chain includes prayer requests for our church family to incorporate into their prayers.  While the communication of these requests is completed primarily by email, some participants also communicate via telephone.
 
Prayer Group – A group of people who meet on Wednesdays at 4pm at West Campus for a time of prayer together.
 
Stephen Ministry – A caring ministry at LCM that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those in our congregation during time of need.  Training is held every two years.
Administrative Volunteers – Individuals who serve throughout the week in order to help the coordinator execute the LCM Kids Ministry. Roles might include preparing materials for Sunday school classes, decorating classroom environments or organizing materials and supplies for weekly needs or large events.
 
LCM Kids: Music Volunteers – These individuals provide general leadership to the Children’s Music Time on Sunday mornings. No music background is required, just a love to share music with children.
 
LCM Kids: Sunday School Assistants – Assist the teacher with lessons & activities, help keep kids engaged in the lesson.
 
LCM Kids: Sunday School Small Group Leaders – An individual who facilitates the Bible lessons and activities, as well as serves as a role model, forming loving and caring relationships to the children in their classes on Sunday mornings. No preparation is required, as all lessons are prepared for you.
 
LCM Kids: Sunday School Substitutes – An individual who fills in when the regular volunteer is unable to teach on a Sunday. The lesson is already planned and ready to go when you arrive to teach.
 
LCM Kids: Wednesday Small Group Leaders/Assistants – Individuals who facilitate Bible lessons and activities on Wednesday Evenings. They serve as a role model for forming loving and caring relationships to the children in their class. Lessons are prepared for you.
 
LCM Kids: Welcome Volunteers – Their job is to provide oversight to the Sunday School welcome area, greet families and check-in children for Sunday School.
 
Special Events Volunteers – Provide assistance to the Children’s Ministry Coordinator in organizing, planning, promoting and executing the children’s ministry special events. You can help with multiple events or one event per year.
 
Special Needs Buddies – They are individuals who are matched one-on-one with children who might need extra attention and assistance during Sunday School. An ideal Special Needs Buddy is anyone with a heart for individuals with disabilities and a desire to see them included in the body of Christ.
 
Summer Sunday School Small Group Leaders – Provide a season of rest to the full-time volunteers throughout the summer. Since the summer is more of a short-term commitment, it’s a great way to try out serving at LCM Kids.
 
Vacation Bible School Volunteers – Many individuals are needed to put on this amazing event for the kids in the summer. Some areas you can volunteer by leading or assisting in are: Registration, Welcome and Hospitality, Kitchen, Music, Preschool, Bible Story, Crafts, Small Groups, Administrative, Preparation and Clean Up.
 
 
Camp/Retreat Volunteers – Camp/Retreat Volunteers help lead young people through the camp/retreat process; including pre-trip meetings, and post-trip follow-ups.
 
Confirmation Small Group Leaders – During Confirmation classes, small group leaders facilitate discussion, ask for prayer requests, and build a long-lasting relationship with their small group. Confirmation is on Wednesday evenings at both the East and West Campuses.
 
LCM Students Midweek Small Group Leaders (SGLs) – LCM’s Middle and High School Ministry meets on Wednesday evenings for a lesson, discussion and fellowship. These groups are led by Small Group Leaders who builds long-lasting relationships with the teens.
 
Special Events Volunteers – At various times throughout the year, young people come together for a variety of events (ie., fundraisers, service and fun). Volunteers help with setting up, tearing down, driving, serving, and most importantly creating long-lasting relationships with the young people inside and outside of our congregation.
 
Sunday School Small Group Leaders (SGLs) – A SGL leads students in Bible Study, discussion and fellowship. Substitutes are needed also.
 
Youth Mentors – Youth Mentors connect with students (especially those unable to attend other events) on their own schedule and pray for their students regularly, as well as other forms of connection such as an occasional text or monthly
meet-up.
 
Care Packages and Cards (Birthday, Christmas, Graduation, etc.) – Cards and Care packages containing a variety of items are shipped occasionally to our young adults away from home to show our love and support. It can mean so much to our young adults who are away from home (college, military duty) to receive a card or brief note periodically.
 
Young Adult Study – Young adults participate in multi-generational studies and activities at LCM. We are currently developing more social opportunities and topic-specific studies for young adults. Contact Pastor Jonathan for more information.
 
Church Board Member – Elected to serve and represent the congregation in this leadership position. Works with the pastors and lay staff to accomplish the mission and vision of LCM.
 
CPR/First Aid Volunteer – CPR/First Aid certified.  Willing to help with special events such as Summerfest, VBS and/or in emergency situations.
 
Equipment/Appliance Repair – Work on large or small appliances and equipment within our facilities.
 
Landscaping – Help with weeding, planting, pruning, maintaining flower beds/pots, laying down mulch and snow removal for church grounds.
 
Maintenance Help (Construction, Handyman) – Help with occasional fix-it jobs or small construction jobs at church and/or simple repairs for our elderly, widows or single parents within LCM.
 
Medical Volunteer – Help with emergency situations, as needed.  Willing to coordinate CPR/First Aid training for staff, ushers and/or key volunteers.
 
NE Licensed Teacher/Substitute – Substitute teach in our Alleluia! Preschool and Kindergarten classes as needed.  Current Nebraska certified teachers with experience in preschool/kindergarten needed.  Without certificate, can assist as a para.
 
Office Assistant/ Volunteer – Assist with collating newsletters each month, special bulletins, special projects, collect/enter informational forms – as needed.
 
Security (non-armed) – Willing to attend safety/security meetings on behalf of LCM and lead volunteers in monitoring/patrolling campuses during high-volume events/worship. Also, take proper action to report suspicious activity/individuals.
 
Transportation – Pick-up/drop-off individuals for church activities/worship, carpool.
 
Assist in Time of Emergencies – Assist during or after a disaster or an emergency situation or help organize a food or supplies drive.
 
Donate Items for Various Service Projects/Organizations – Project examples include Thanksgiving bags, Angel Tree, Operation Christmas Child, Project Hope, Good Will Ministry, South Lutheran Pantry/Iglesia Cristiana. Watch the monthly newsletter for details.
 
Habitat for Humanity – A volunteer opportunity to help build simple, affordable homes for local people in need. A variety of skills are welcomed.
 
Help for Hospitalized/Home Bound – Individuals willing to visit those confined who appreciate having someone from their church home coming to visit. Confidentiality is a must for this assignment.
 
Mission Team – An Intergenerational group who does mission work locally as well as in other areas of the country and around the world.
 
Prayer Shawl Group – This group knits and crochets Prayer Shawls to be given to those seriously ill or receiving medical treatments, dealing with a loss or adjusting to a care facility. Prayer is incorporated every step of the way. Crochet/knitting lessons are offered. They meet on Mondays at East Campus.
 
Quilting Group – This group gets together the 1st & 3rd Mondays of each month at East Campus to make and tie quilts.
 
Special Outreach Events – Throughout the year, special events are held at both campuses and many hands are needed to plan and implement these events. They are meant to reach out into our community and show the love of Christ. (Examples include Block Parties, SummerFest and Trunk or Treat).
 
Stephen Center – A variety of LCM groups that prepare and serve a meal monthly at the Stephen Center.
Altar Guild – Helps with many tasks such as changing banners, setting up for communion and baptisms, filling candles, and decorating for church holidays. Volunteers are rotated so this only requires a small amount of time every few months.
 
Audio-Visual Operator – During services and special occasions, this person operates the audio-visual equipment/computer that guides the slides used.
 
Baptismal Banners – Baptismal banners are made for each baptism in the church and hung at the altar area during the service.
 
Choir – The Chancel Choir is open to adults and high school students. They sing primarily at the 9:15 AM service at East Campus and rehearse on Thursday evenings and/or Sunday mornings. West Campus also has seasonal choir for Christmas and Easter, watch the newsletter and announcements for practice information.
 
Communion Assistant – Assist with Communion by distributing bread or wine or by collecting used cups.
 
Greeter – Greeters provide a welcome smile to those attending services and can help direct visitors to the Welcome Table.
 
Hand Bell Choir – The Master Ringers (hand bell choir) is an intergenerational group of men and women (high school to adult) who rehearse on Wednesday evenings and participate in worship services usually once a month from September to May. Though experience is not required for regular members or substitutes, it is helpful to be able to read music.
 
Instrumental Music – If you have experience with a particular instrument, we’d like to know about it. You may be called upon to help in special services or programming.
 
Scripture Reader – Scripture readers read the passages in front of the congregation during the service.
 
Special Music – Members present offerings of special music, either vocal or instrumental at our East campus during the summer months and at special times such as Easter.
 
Usher – Ushers welcome those attending, pass out bulletins, take an attendance count, collect the offering and tidy up after the service is over. They also assist as needed before, during and after the service.
 
Welcome Ministry/HELLO Ministry – Volunteers, wearing the red “HELLO” badges, are at the doors of each campus (and the Welcome Table at the West campus) to welcome guests, provide information or directions, and answer questions about LCM as needed.
 
Worship Team – Members who would like to be a part of the contemporary (West Campus) Worship Team may audition with Galen Greer.
