March 25 – Palm Sunday

1 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

I think this is interesting that this is our verse for Palm Sunday. As Paul was writing instructions for Timothy to give the church in Ephesus, we are given these same instructions. This chapter is intended as instructions for leaders of the church, and verses 14-16 are the purpose for such instructions. Jesus, upon entering what we now call Holy Week, goes into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday – people are beyond excited to see Him as he continues to fulfill prophecies. Riding on a donkey, Jesus enters people are shouting Hosanna! Jesus – is God manifested in human flesh, endorsed by the Holy Spirit throughout His life, seen by the angels, His name is proclaimed with joy this Palm Sunday, and then after His resurrection was taken up to sit at the right hand of the Father!

John 3:16 is weaved throughout this entire verse so beautifully. Palm Sunday as we celebrate this occasion in the church, we are reminded of what the next few days entail. Jesus is betrayed, arrested, beaten, and crucified – and all of this is the Father’s will for him – so that we may be saved! “For God so loved the World.”
